A festival that brings people together and surprises them: with lively concerts and world-class artists. That is the Audi Sommerkonzerte. Even in the days of social distancing.
Because remarkable times need remarkable responses. As a result of the coronavirus crisis, concerts and festivals all over the world have been cancelled. But the Audi Sommerkonzerte took place! Under the motto “Together for Music”, from 2 to 5 July 2020 the festival was celebrating its thirtieth anniversary in Ingolstadt: with four live-streamed concerts from the Audi museum mobile and the hall for employee assemblies on the GVZ site. For loyal festival audiences, small open-air concerts were being held in Ingolstadt. The live streams reached more than 70,000 viewers from over 30 countries.
Audi has always seen the festival as part of the city. Since they were founded in 1990, the Sommerkonzerte have become the biggest and probably the leading classical festival in Ingolstadt and its region. The aim is to create surprising experiences for audiences – with lively concerts and world-class artists. Audi is not only the sponsor but also the organizer of the festival.
Since 2019 the Audi Sommerkonzerte have been borne the creative signature of the star violinist Lisa Batiashvili. In the role of artistic director she shapes the programs. By means of a leitmotif, an exciting supporting program and concerts in unusual locations in the city – ranging from living room concerts to chamber, symphony, film and open-air concerts – appealing and stimulating approaches to classical music are opened up and links to the present day established. The festival has already attracted more than a quarter of a million visitors to the concert halls.
