Audi Sommerkonzerte 2021

Lisa Batiashvili – Artistic Director

“Breathtaking: this is how it sounds when Lisa Batiashvili takes hold of her Guarneri “del Gesu” violin, made in 1739, to draw from it “exquisite finesse with wonderful sweetness of tone,” as The Guardian of London wrote following a performance by the multi-award-winning virtuoso. She herself says that her instrument is “a violin that you would never want to part with. You can truly ‘sing’ with it, and that is wonderful.”

Without a doubt, Lisa Batiashvili is among the most renowned star violinists in the world, and regularly works with such orchestras as the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2019 she has been artistic director of the Audi Sommerkonzerte, where at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis she moved an audience of millions with a digital Solidarity Concert held in the Press Shop (see images below). In 2020 the festival was broadcast around the world for the first time via live stream under the motto Together for Music.

With the aim of supporting culture and especially young artists from her homeland, Georgia, in 2021 the star violinist established the LISA BATIASHVILI FOUNDATION. She recently brought out the album City Lights – a musical journey through eleven cities that have a special significance in her life. Her previous recording, Visions of Prokofiev, received the Opus Klassik Award in 2018 and was nominated for the Gramophone Awards in 2018.
