Beka Gochiashvili, born in 1996 in Tbilisi, Georgia, started playing piano at just two and a half years old, first beginning with Scott Joplin ragtime. At just ten years of age he had already undertaken extensive classical piano training and was performing in jazz clubs around Tbilisi. Among his noted fans he can name former US Secretary of State and accomplished pianist Condoleezza Rice, who says that “Beka is one of the best jazz pianists I’ve heard anywhere.” As the youngest participant at the prestigious Montreux Jazz festival, Beka won first prize in the Bosendorfer Solo Jazz Piano competition. In 2009 he won a full scholarship and graduated from New York’s one of the most prestigious Julliard School. He has since played jazz clubs and festivals throughout the US.
Despite being in his early 20s, Beka has already played with celebrated jazz names including Chick Corea, Brian Blade and Ravi Coltrane. Gochiashvili led jazz trios at age 14 to perform at events including the Black Sea Jazz Festival, the Vienna Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival. He was 16 when he played alongside Chick Corea at the 2012 Tbilisi Jazz Festival. Beka Gochiashvili was included in the list of the legendary pianist, Chick Corea, as one of his inspiring musicians - Chick Corea made a list “The Pianists I’ve Studied and Been Inspired By”. In this list we saw Beka’s name next to Martha Argerich, Beethoven, J.S. Bach and many other renowned pianists. Beka will play in The Chick Corea Trio instead of Chick Corea, on March 14th in Budapest, with John Patitucci and Dave Weckl.
